Melissa Hernandez - Violin
Melissa Hernandez is from Corpus Christi, TX and began playing viola in her school's orchestra when she was 10 years old. As a high school junior, she picked up the violin and began playing with Roy Miller High School's Mariachi Cristal.
Melissa attended the University of Texas - Pan American in Edinburg, TX where she received her B.A. in Communication - Journalism in 2004. While attending UTPA, she was highly involved with the UTPA music department, playing violin with the UTPA Chamber Orchestra and UTPA Mariachi Femenil, which placed several times at the Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza in San Antonio, TX and has opened for Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán at their annual concert in McAllen.
Melissa has played with several professional mariachis as well. She began playing with Mariachi Fuego in Corpus Christi, TX when she was 15 years old. While at UTPA, she was an original member of the valley's premier all-female mariachi, Mariachi Azucenas.
Melissa moved to Austin and began playing with Mariachi Tamazula in October 2008.
